I never expected sandy beaches with azure waters in Northern Ireland. But beaches near Portrush are broad and inviting and the town itself feels plucked from my childhood with a ferris wheel and arcade games on the boardwalk. The stunning Anterim coast nearby boasts the Giant’s Causeway – with more tourists than hexagonal columns – and the less known but more fun cliffside rope bridge, Carrick-a-Rede.
